Directory Script Overview
The PHP based directory script can be used to create standalone directories like ArtWebLinks.com and World Site Index, or can be incorporated into your existing website as a link exchange directory.
Note: Both directories mentioned are using a custom skin and World Site Index is using a customised script to deliver additional page links, e.g. our web design listing. Information on adding additional links can be found in the directory script mods forum.
The directory script can be installed on most hosts that provide PHP 4.3 or later and MySQL 4.0.10 or later. Full requirements for the directory script. It should be noted that the script is designed to work in English only.
Lifetime technical support for the directory script is provided via tickets and open discussion within our community forums.
An affiliate scheme is available for those interested in advertising the directory script.
The script provides the following features:
- No limits imposed on the number of categories and sub-categories.
- Full text search.
- Filter to analyse the title and description of submissions to the directory to help ensure the correctness of the submission and optionally block bad words.
- Supports mod_rewrite to allow for search engine friendly URLs.
- Cross linking of categories.
- Per category description and meta description.
- Express listings can be randomly rotated onto the home page.
- Page Caching to reduce sever load.
- Index of all categories grouped alphabetically.
- Rating system, listings with higher ratings are displayed nearer the top of the category.
(Can be turned off) - Entries can have an additional detailed text description.
(Can be turned off) - Per category banner ads, which can have an expiry date set.
- Directory wide sponsorship links on the bottom of pages with the ability to set an expiry date for automatic contact of the advertiser and renewal payment.
- Each entry can have a thumbnail.
- Suggest a new category form.
- Report broken link or bad entry form.
- "What's New" pages showing all listings added in the last 30 days.
(Number of days is configurable) - Top-level categories can be assigned unique icons.
- Category suggestions are queued for review in the admin interface.
- Broken and reported links are queued in the admin interface.
- Parked pages are actively looked for are queued as broken links.
- Article pages can be added to categories in addition to category descriptions.
- Large categories are automatically split over multiple pages.
- Listings are sorted by level (paid or free), rating and finally alphabetically.
- Optionally reads meta data from site during submission.
- Express listings supported with payment through PayPal, 2Checkout or NOCHEX.
- Control which categories will accept submissions.
- New submissions are queued for review before being added to the directory.
- Requests for modifications to existing listings are queued for review before the directory is updated.
- Automatic sending of emails informing the submitter of acceptance or rejection.
- Categories and entries can be moved within the directory.
- Can share the database with other scripts through use of table prefixes.
- Delivered skin is validated CSS and XHTML 1.1.
- Dead and reciprocal link checker.
- Support for IP to country databases to allow submissions to be blocked by country or only accepting submissions where the web server or submitter are in a valid country. More information.
Accuracy of this function is dependent on the IP to country database being used. - Blocking of submissions by IP addressed, URL or email address.
- Up to 100 category and detail page template variations can be created and used on a per category basis.
- Automatic daily generation of Google and Yahoo! sitemaps.
- Ability run in a mode so that listings are ordered within categories by the amount bid over a base price in place of votes. See bid order configuration.
- Optional remote publication interface allowing listed sites to push news items or full page text for instant publication within the directory. Live Pages can have a lifespan applied to them.
Directory Script Trial Version
Please Note: This is a trial version of the directory script software and is limited to 100 listings and 50 categories.- Upgrades and enhancements are only available to those who purchase a licence.
- This is not free software; you may only use it for the purpose of ensuring that the script meets your requirements or checking compatibility with your hosting provider.
- You must agree to and abide by the included licence agreement.
- Support can be obtained by creating a ticket at http://support.tolranet.com.
- This version has been encoded with the ionCube Encoder this requires that you have the free ionCube loaders installed on your server.
The full version of the script is supplied as source and does not require the loaders.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but were forced to encode the script due to attempts to clone the directory script from the trial version.
Download a trial version by going through the following steps:
- Read and agree to the licence agreement.
- Download the trial version of the web directory script as a .zip file.
