Continuous Data Protection - Web Hosting Backups

Continuous Data Protection because your data is important!

Overview of CDP Backups

TOLRA utilises R1Soft Continuous Data Protection (CDP) software, which has been designed to minimise bandwidth and CPU cycles, used for backup, offers compression and strong end-to-end encryption. R1Soft CDP Server also allows the backup of open files and the full backup and restore of MySQL databases. It achieves this by monitoring changes to the disks as they happen then transferring only those changes to the CDP Server thereby reducing the backup window to seconds or minutes.

Traditionally backups have only been made once per day but with the increasing reliance on online databases by businesses this schedule is becoming increasingly unacceptable. The reduced backup window offered by R1Soft CDP Server allows us to take backups every hour and maintain a history of backups, thus backup data is significantly more up-to-date should a restore be required.

Another benefit of R1Soft CDP Server is its integration with cPanel that allows clients to select and restore files from any available recovery point. The file restoration process is completely controlled by the user and does not require TOLRA technical support.

Summary of CDP Benefits

  • Included with all our hosting plans as standard.
  • Backups are taken each hour, that is 24 times per day, keeping the last 48 recovery points, this ensures your backups are fresh.

    In addition to hourly backups:
    • Backups are taken each morning keeping the last 14 mornings recovery points.
    • Backups are taken each Monday morning keeping the last 8 weekly recovery points.
  • Access your backups to restore the files or folders at anytime.
  • CDP only makes backups of changed data and so allows the server to do what it's supposed to, serve your site to your visitors, while keeping your data safe.
  • CDP Servers utilise RAID arrays to protect against disk failure.
